    Principal’s Message:

Today, the majority of our students are going to the MacLab theatre at LCHS to view our Grade 8 rendition of Beauty and the Beast Jr. This beloved story has captured the hearts and imaginations of audiences for generations, and I believe that our yearly production is an integral part to our school. It challenges students and staff in a variety of ways and creates opportunities for students they never realized were possible.

Drama productions provide an excellent opportunity for children to develop their creativity and imagination. Through exploring the fantastical world of Beauty and the Beast Jr., children can let the imaginations God has given them run and begin to think outside the box. They learn to experiment with different ideas and approaches and explore their own unique voice and perspective. This process of creative expression is essential for children’s overall development, as it encourages them to develop a sense of self. As a part of the body of Christ, not everyone can be the same, and it is through opportunities such as this that they can discover their part in God’s story.

The drama also requires children to communicate effectively with others, both on and off the stage. They learn to express themselves clearly and confidently, to listen and respond to feedback, and to work collaboratively as part of a team. These communication skills are essential for success in all areas of life, and drama provides a fun and engaging way for children to practice and develop them.

It also can be a powerful tool for developing emotional intelligence. Through their roles and the themes explored in the production, children learn to empathize with others, understand and express complex emotions, and develop a greater sense of self-awareness. This is particularly important in today’s world, where emotional intelligence is increasingly valued and essential for success in a wide range of careers. Productions require children to think critically and creatively about the world around them. They learn to analyze characters and situations, identify underlying themes and messages, and question their own assumptions and beliefs. This process of critical thinking is essential for developing a well-rounded and informed worldview, and for success in academic, spiritual, and professional pursuits.

Finally, viewing a drama production can be an educational experience in its own right. By watching a performance, children can develop critical thinking and analysis skills as they follow the storyline, identify character motivations, and explore the underlying themes and messages. They can learn about different time periods, cultures, and social issues that are explored in the play, and connect with the characters and their experiences. They can also appreciate the art of storytelling and performance, and gain an understanding of the creative process involved in producing a play.

As you can see, while this play will be tons of fun for your child(ren) and the whole family, the impact of seeing, participating in, and learning about Beauty and the Beast Jr, will also hit on countless learning outcomes and educational strands. As we challenge our students to be Kingdom Builders in all they do, this truly is one unique way we show our kids how they connect the lower story to the upper story.

Looking forward to seeing you at the theatre!

2W Kindness Project – Deadline to order is this Friday!

2W has been learning about the power of kindness through Bible stories and in-class learning. We feel inspired and want to do something to colour God’s world with a little more kindness.

We are selling handmade tie-dye t-shirts for $15. They will feature our class storyline: Coloured with Kindness. We want to sell at least 100 shirts.

We will use the money to buy art supplies and then create handmade board games and playing cards.

These games and cards will be gifted to a group of people who we think could use some extra kindness in their lives: seniors who live in seniors residences. Our hope is this will bring them happiness and joy and help them to feel less alone.

T-shirts can be purchased through the order form on PowerSchool until Friday, March 24th.

    Odds & Ends:

    Sign In/Out Form:

In an effort to reduce the amount of shared touched surfaces, we will be using a QR code that you will need to scan with your phone for signing in and out of the school. You can also use this link if you are in your vehicle and need to sign out a student but can’t scan the code. This means that students/parents/visitors can scan the QR code when entering or leaving the office/school to sign in or sign out on their own phone/device.

Parents will also be able to sign their kids out from their vehicle in the parking lot when they arrive to pick them up for appts. etc. please use the link above if you can’t scan the QR code. We do ask that parents pull into a spot (not bus lane) where they can contact the office to let them know you have arrived and we can make eye contact with you
from the staff/office door. Students must also stop by the office before leaving the school. At that point, once a connection is made, we are able to send students out to you.
