    Principal’s Message:

As I drove into the school early this morning, with the sun just rising, in a silent truck cab (I refused to listen to the recap of the Oilers loss), I began to audibly chuckle. I had a ridiculous thought as I drove slowly down the entrance lane. I felt like Moses as he parted the Red Sea. With plus temperatures overnight, our parking lot, and school fields have both become their own enormous bodies of water, complete with various tributaries feeding into them.

While administrative type of plans began filling my mind: “Do we have enough emergency clothes for when kids fall in,” “Do I ban kids from the field,” “What do I tell supervisors about puddles,” “How will parents feel about playing a real-life version of Oregon trail and try to ford the river?” I also had a sense of rejuvenation come over me.

Throughout the bible, it speaks of spring rain and the season of growth and fresh beginnings. This year, more than any year I can remember, I feel our CCS community, just like our greater society, needs that revival of refreshment. Regardless of what is bringing our hearts, minds, and souls down, we need to take this season to acknowledge Him, and release our burdens and resentments.

As we walk into Spring Break, it is my prayer that you see the beauty of spring, the gloriousness of His faithfulness, and actively support others, seek compassion, and like our great lakes outside the school, nourish your roots in Him.

    Announcements:

    Information Needed – Important!

As we get ever closer to the last term of this year, it’s time to start thinking about next year! In order to help us plan for staffing, etc. in the fall, we need you to complete a Returning Student Form for your family. Please complete this online form by March 31st.

    Extra Clothing for Puddle Weather

As we are entering warmer days, we want to remind you to pack some extra clothes for your child(ren); especially if you know they gravitate towards tempting puddles. We all realize that our schoolyard will produce some surprisingly large puddles (sometimes named Lake Covenant), and therefore want to be prepared for the inevitable. Extra pants, socks, and even undergarments are all suggested.

    Elementary Basketball Opportunity

Over the past couple of years, we have been unable to run an elementary basketball team due to the COVID restrictions. Now that cohorting is not an issue I would like to run a 6-week “Intro to Basketball” clinic for our 4, 5, and 6th-grade girls. My focus over the 6 weeks is to teach the rules and fundamentals of the game. I am hoping to get 12 girls out that would like to learn the game of basketball. If we get enough interest we will have an inter-squad game at the end. The sessions will run from 3:30 – 5:00 pm on Tuesdays after school beginning on April 12. If your daughter is interested (or has any questions) you can register by sending me an email to [email protected]. There will be a cost of $10 per student and all money will go towards purchasing some new basketballs for the school. The session dates are April 12, April 19, April 26, May 3, May, 10 and May 17.

    Hot Lunch

Hot lunch forms will be changing slightly; we are going to move to weekly order forms. The deadline will generally be Tuesdays at midnight for the following week’s order. However, if there is a holiday, ie. spring break, this may change slightly. Deadlines for order/payment will always be listed on the order form. Currently, the forms for all of April are available on PowerSchool for your completion.

    School Council

There will be no school council meeting in March due to Spring Break and the Grade 8 Drama. We are planning to meet on the last Wednesday of April (27th). We hope to see you there! If you have any questions, please email Shauna Balehowsky, CCS School Council Chair, at [email protected].

    Report Freeze

A reminder that on March 18 we will enter our term two “Report Freeze” on PowerSchool. During this week, parents will not be able to access their children’s accounts on PowerSchool. Teachers will have this week to enter final grades, comments, and assignments for Term 2. Access to PowerSchool will be activated again for parents on March 25th at 4:00 pm. For the week of March 28 to April 1, no new assignments or grades will be added. If you have any questions, please call the CCS office. If it is an assessment question, the subject teacher would be the person to ask via email. Their email can be found in the course section in PowerSchool.

    Celebration

Even though restrictions are easing, we will continue to do weekly virtual assemblies, which we call Celebration, at this time. Celebration will be held on Thursdays for the month of March. We are planning to hold in-person assemblies soon after Spring Break!! Please click on the button below to join us!

    Shrek Spring Drama

We are so excited to watch all the hard work our students, staff, and parents have put into their production of Shrek Jr. After a week and a half, we have two sold-out shows!

    CCS Alumni Showcase TONIGHT

During the week of Spring Program, March 21-25, we are excited to announce that the Maclab Mosaic Series will feature a number of Covenant’s recent grads for an evening of music. This will be a memorable evening as we see how these creative artists continue to be Beauty-Creators and continue to engage in the creative arts. The show begins at 7:30 pm TONIGHT. Individual tickets are on sale now on TicketPro.

Featured Artists include Covenant Christian School alumni; Emily Dakin, Kajia Feldbusch (nee Meetsma), Sam, and Caylie Klooster.

    Scholastic Book Fair

Thank you to everyone who participated in our Scholastic Book Fair! We are excited to hold an in-person book fair in the fall again!

    Lost & Found

We will continue to post a photo of our Lost & Found each week in the Chronicle. If you see an item that is your child’s, please have them pick it up the next day or email the office and we will make sure it gets home with them.

    Odds & Ends:

    Sign In/Out Form:

In an effort to reduce the amount of shared touched surfaces, we will be using a QR code that you will need to scan with your phone for signing in and out of the school. You can also use this link if you are in your vehicle and need to sign out a student but can’t scan the code. This means that students/parents/visitors can scan the QR code when entering or leaving the office/school to sign in or sign out on their own phone/device.

Parents will also be able to sign their kids out from their vehicle in the parking lot when they arrive to pick them up for appts. etc. please use the link above if you can’t scan the QR code. We do ask that parents pull into a spot (not bus lane) where you can contact the office to let them know you have arrived and we can make eye contact with you
from the staff/office door. Students must also stop by the office before leaving the school. At that point, once a connection is made, we are able to send students out to you.
