    Principal’s Message:

Can you believe that it is already the middle of May? With only 26 school days left in the year, our students and staff are focusing on finishing the year strong, and I am beginning to turn one eye to next year!

One thing that has already caused many hours of conversation is class placements for next year. This includes staff placement, grade configuration and student placement. These decisions are not something that is haphazardly done, and many factors are taken into consideration. Be it which classes will have a split grade, which teacher teaches where, and yes, where your child is placed in a class is not done without reason. Prayer, dynamics, and a variety of other factors all come into play making these decisions, and these are not done in a silo either. While administration has final say, many voices are consulted.

With that said, if you have a serious concern that you would like taken into account, I will accept these by phone or email by the end of May. While these concerns will be considered, all of the factors will be weighed carefully and prayerfully, and final decisions will be made with the best of intentions for each classroom dynamic.

I know that the summer can be full of anticipation for next year, and rest assured these conversations are already happening! I am excited with the team we are assembling and confident that God’s fingerprints are all over these decisions.

    Announcements:

Track and Field Day Thank You!

    Many hands make light work.

For this being our first CCS track meet, after a 2-year break, I’m happy to say it was a great success!

First, and foremost, a big thank-you to each and every volunteer that came out to help.  We could NOT have had the meet without you.  To the valuable veterans (you know who you are) that ironed out kinks in the moment, manned events solo, and used your own devices and some new technologies to make things flow, thank you!  To the first-timers who were more than willing to be put anywhere we needed you, easy-going enough to have your assignment changed around last minute, and showed up early to set up, thank you!  To friends and family that came and cheered on our athletes, thank you!  To the CCS staff, that willingly managed all of the students and got everyone where they needed to be when they needed to be there, thank you!

Our schoolyard was a buzz and our hearts were full as we gathered, took part in Community-Building, and demonstrated the gifts and abilities God has given us.  It was wonderful to witness new relationships spark, and old friends reconnect, as you served our CCS students.

Thank you for a speedy clean-up!  We serve a good, good Father who hears our prayers and cares about the little details. Though windy, which we are learning to expect out here lately, the weather held out until the buses came and our athletes competed safely through the whole day.

We are excited for the CCS Track Meet next year!

*** Please note: The LDAA track meet is taking place on May 24 at John Bole Athletic Park (LCHS) and we are required to provide 2 adults to help run the discus event.  If you would be able to help us out in this way, please contact Philip Drader @ [email protected] or call the school @ 780 986 8353.  Thank you in advance.

    Class Photos

Class photos for grades from grade 1 to grade 9 will take place on Wednesday, May 25. Kindergarten Vande Kraats will also have their photo taken on Wednesday, May 25. Kindergarten Luchak AND Grade 3MC will have their photo taken on Thursday, May 26.

    Attendance Call Outs

As of this past Monday, Black Gold has put a second attendance call out in place. Attendance call-outs will take place at 9:10 in the morning as well as 1:25 in the afternoon. Attendance will be taken in the homeroom class in the first block and eighth block of the day. Students who are not accounted for by 9:00 am or 1:15 pm will be marked unexcused and the calls, emails, and texts will go out to parents 10 mins after those times respectively.

Please contact the school via email or phone to confirm your child’s absence.

    Grade 9 Mini Mall/Market

We hope you will join us for Covenant Christian Grade 9 Mini-Mall!  Our Mini-Mall has been an annual school-wide community event. It combines the Grade 9s learning in Social Studies on Economics with a fund-raising opportunity for their graduation by creating a mini-business to sell products to other students.

This year we are operating Mini-Mall in-person. You can also preview items on the Mini-Mall Market Webpage with your child, you can look through the catalogue and engage in meaningful conversation about financial literacy, budgeting, stewardship, and consumerism.

The students’ products will be available on Friday, May 27 from 11:10 to 12:10. Homeroom teachers will be escorting children through the mini-mall at that time. Parents are also welcome to join us at the school for this event. Tickets will be purchased through your child’s Powerschool Accounts and are now available for purchase on PowerSchool. Tickets will be available in books of 20 tickets for $5. Most items at mini-mall cost between 4-12 tickets ($1.00-$3.00). No cash will be accepted or tickets refunded. All ticket purchases must be made through PowerSchool by midnight on May 26, 2022

    School Council

May 26th is our last School Council meeting immediately following Celebration. We hope to see you there!

    Hot Lunch

We have moved Hot lunch forms to a weekly format. The deadline will generally be Tuesdays at midnight for the following week’s order. However, if there is a holiday, ie. spring break, this may change slightly. Deadlines for order/payment will always be listed on the order form. ***If your child is absent on a hot lunch day, you will need to notify the office before 10:30 am if you would like the lunch saved or given to a sibling. If this is your request, the saved lunches will be delivered to the office and the sibling will need to come to the office to pick up the lunch. If no notification is received by this time, the lunch will be given away to another student who has forgotten their lunch.

    Celebration

We were excited to be back in person for our weekly Celebration assemblies! Celebration will be held on Thursdays for the month of May. All parents are welcome to join us!!

    Lost & Found

We will continue to post a photo of our Lost & Found each week in the Chronicle. If you see an item that is your child’s, please have them pick it up the next day or email the office and we will make sure it gets home with them.

    Athletics:

    Floor Hockey

The grade 5 and 6 boys participated in a tournament at Corinthia Park over the past weekend. They played well and had a good time working as a team!

    Soccer

Tryouts for a grade 5/6 soccer team were held yesterday. The team will be playing in a tournament on Friday, June 3, and Saturday, June 4.

For the selected students who made the team, please see your child’s PowerSchool account next week to complete the form and pay any associated fees.

Registration has now opened for our 2022 Covenant Christian School Golf Tournament! For those who came to our first annual event, you know that it was a ton of fun! With Roger Anderson and his crew of 4 sneaking away with the lowest score on the challenging Leduc Golf Course, the only question is, will they go back-to-back!?

    Odds & Ends:

    Sign In/Out Form:

In an effort to reduce the amount of shared touched surfaces, we will be using a QR code that you will need to scan with your phone for signing in and out of the school. You can also use this link if you are in your vehicle and need to sign out a student but can’t scan the code. This means that students/parents/visitors can scan the QR code when entering or leaving the office/school to sign in or sign out on their own phone/device.

Parents will also be able to sign their kids out from their vehicle in the parking lot when they arrive to pick them up for appts. etc. please use the link above if you can’t scan the QR code. We do ask that parents pull into a spot (not bus lane) where you can contact the office to let them know you have arrived and we can make eye contact with you
from the staff/office door. Students must also stop by the office before leaving the school. At that point, once a connection is made, we are able to send students out to you.
