    Principal’s Message

I have two vivid memories of my grandfather. One as he was on his deathbed, and another when I was a school-age child of about 9 years old. I was doing a family tree assignment for school and I asked him where the Simmons family came from. His answer was blunt: Canada. As I tried to better explain myself and the expectations of the assignment (shockingly, I was a try-hard and wanted to make sure I did well), his only answer was “our family is Canadian.” This answer was not because he was ashamed of where he came from. The answer came from the fact that my grandpa was a veteran. He put his life on the line to protect those who could not, and was immensely proud of this fact. He would always put other people before himself. This was the viewpoint he took to his grave. My grandpa, who was not perfect, and had many difficulties when he came back from the war, is my hero.

Just so we are clear, I didn’t do so well on that one assignment, but I never forgot the lesson I learned that day.

As we quickly move into November, remember to wear your poppy proudly.

    Announcements:

    Front Door Buzzer

Our new doorbell system seems to be working quite well! We have now added a button in the office to allow us to unlock the door without having to come directly to the door each time. When you ring the doorbell please listen for a “click” sound, which is the door lock being released, then you can enter the building.

    Extra Lunch/Snack Needs

We have seen a large increase in the number of students coming for extra lunch and snack items throughout the week. Please ensure your child has enough lunch and snacks to get them through the day. Students do not learn well when they are hungry. As more than one student has been quoted ” learning makes me HUNGRY! I am STARVING!”

    Celebration

We continue to do weekly virtual assemblies, which we call Celebration. Celebration will be held on Thursdays for the month of November.

Please click Here to join us on Zoom tomorrow morning!

    Remembrance Day Ceremony

This year’s ceremony will begin at 11:00 am. It will be a combination of student voice and videos put together by our wonderful Gr. 6C class. Each class is asked to build a wreath, and representatives will then take their classroom wreath down to hang near the gymnasium. Click HERE to join us virtually.

    Parent-Teacher Conferences

We will be holding our Parent-Teacher Conferences the week of November 15-19, virtually.

We will be using School Appointments again this year to book our conferences. You are able to book one appointment time with your child(ren)’s homeroom teacher. We ask that all parents attend these conferences. The system will be open for booking appointments beginning at 4:00 pm TODAY. Details on how to book your appointment are below:

    1. Go to www.covenant.schoolappointments.com
    2. You will need to create a new account, as the system does nto remember accounts from the previous year. Register for an account by clicking the “Click Here to Register” link on the right hand side of the screen under the Login section. Chooose a User ID and Password for yourself and click the “Register Now” button.
    3. Add your children to the system by clicking the “Add a Student” button and click “Insert
    4. Click the “date” (calendar) icon beside each child’s name to schedule appointments. Select the staff member/home room teacher you wish to book the appointment with and the “View Calendars” button. Use the “Ctrl” or “Command” key to select multiple staff to view at the same time. While you can view multiple calendars, you can only book one appointment per student.
    5. Click on available time slots to book your appointment and then click on the “Book Appointments” button to save your bookings. To book additional appointments for your other children, go to the Profile tab and select Manage Students from the drop down and select the next child.
    6. If you wish to print your appointments, go to Profile, View Appointments and then click Print Appointments.

Once you have booked your appointments, the teacher will set up a GoogleMeet for the meeting. You will receive a reminder email with the meeting link before your scheduled appointment time.

    School Clothing!!

We are once again offering school clothing for our school community to purchase! This year we will keep things simple and just have a couple of hoodie options. The order form is now available on PowerSchool for you to complete. Orders need to be in by 4:00 pm on Wednesday, November 24. Delivery will be on Friday, December 17. You MUST pay for your order online at the time of submission for it to be processed. You can order as many times as you would like. If your order is a gift for your child(ren), you can mark that in the form as well.

    Monday Morning Prayer

We are fortunate at CCS for so many reasons! One of these reasons is that we have several ladies who gather on Monday mornings in our parking lot to pray over our school community! If you have a prayer request, you can email it to [email protected] and they would be happy to spend some time praying over it. In order to protect privacy, please do not include names (unless it is you or direct family).

    Lost & Found

In order to continue to limit the number of visitors in the school this year, we will continue to post a photo of our Lost & Found each week in the Chronicle. If you see an item that is your child’s, please have them pick it up the next day or email the office and we will make sure it gets home with them. We will only be holding items until the next Chronicle.

The girls won their games last night as well! They will play semi-finals and finals at J. E. Lapointe tomorrow.

Our senior boys had a bye for the quarter-finals but will play in the semi-finals and finals at CCS tomorrow!

    Basketball

Basketball for junior high will begin shortly, following the end of the volleyball season. Stay tuned for more information regarding upcoming tryouts.

In the past, we have had very strong elementary basketball teams too! However, due to the restrictions on school sports for kids in grades 1-6, we will be unable to have basketball for this age group.

    LSCE News:

    Vaccine Requirements

On October 22, 2021, LSCE received a notice from Black Gold School Division Superintendent Bill Romanchuk stating that: “As of November 15, 2021, on-site partners, contractors and volunteers in any Division building who have direct contact with employees and/or Division students (within two meters) for 15 minutes or more are required to provide proof that they are fully vaccinated or proof of a negative rapid test.” This vaccine requirement DOES NOT APPLY TO STUDENTS. This vaccine requirement also DOES NOT APPLY to parents and guardians who are picking up or dropping their children off at Black Gold buildings. Upon receiving this information the LSCE Executive met on October 25, 2021. After much discussion on a difficult decision, a motion was passed to put the same requirements into effect as BGSD for LSCE Employees, parents, and volunteers. (See above exceptions)

    Odds & Ends:

    Sign In/Out Form:

In an effort to reduce the amount of shared touched surfaces, we will be using a QR code that you will need to scan with your phone for signing in and out of the school. You can also use this link if you are in your vehicle and need to sign out a student but can’t scan the code. This means that students/parents/visitors can scan the QR code when entering or leaving the office/school to sign in or sign out on their own phone/device.

Parents will also be able to sign their kids out from their vehicle in the parking lot when they arrive to pick them up for appts. etc. please use the link above if you can’t scan the QR code. We do ask that parents pull into a spot (not bus lane) where you can contact the office to let them know you have arrived and we can make eye contact with you
from the staff/office door. Students must also stop by the office before leaving the school. At that point, once a connection is made, we are able to send students out to you.
