Principal’s Message
Over the last four days, I have been at a leadership conference in Banff, Alberta. ULead is an internationally renowned conference with contingents coming from as far as Iceland, New Zealand, and Australia. Over the last few days, I have been incredibly renewed, motivated about what is happening at our school, and invigorated to keep us on the cusp of educational pedagogy.
One of my favourite sessions was listening to Baruti Kafele, a former principal and teacher of the year in New Jersey. He challenged our session by asking the big question, “Is my school better because I lead it?” As I meditated on this question and listened to him speak, I thought about the amazing things we have going on in our school and the cultivation of a people who love Jesus. Yet, my answer was – no it’s not. Many days, it is not better because I lead it; yet because of our amazing staff, supportive community, and the overwhelming, never-ending, restless love of God, our school continues to get better.
If we look at the climate and culture of our school, we can see the impact that our school’s agenda and mission have on our school. While the session made me feel a little uncomfortable, knowing that I can do more, I also am leaving it challenged, knowing I get to do more and to challenge our staff that we can do more together.
Our agenda, our core purpose at CCS is to cultivate Flourishing Learners, who Delight in God, and who are Inspired to Serve. I left Banff invigorated about living out our core purpose.
