Principal’s Message:
As we walk into this Advent season, it is my prayer that you and your family find peace, joy, love, and hope over the next month. Lighting the first candle in Celebration this morning immediately put me into the Christmas spirit today, and as we begin December, I am so thankful for our school and community of believers.
Announcements:
Lunch/Snack Program
As previously mentioned in past Chronicle’s, we have seen a large increase in the number of snacks/lunch items requested from the office. We are always happy to help out those who forgot lunch or who didn’t quite have enough. With that being said, often parents are not aware that their children are requesting extra lunch/snacks. In order to have good communication between teachers/the office/parents, we are going to try a new system. If a student has forgotten their lunch or needs a little extra, they should go to their teacher and let them know. The teacher can then give them an “I forgot my Lunch” or an “I could use a snack” coupon to take to the office. The office staff will then get them some food items for snack/lunch. If the need becomes frequent, this will hopefully allow teachers to connect with parents concerning snack/lunch needs.
Overpayments in PowerSchool
Recently, account statements were sent out. You may notice that you have a credit with Covenant Christian School, yet also have outstanding fees for a Black Gold School Division Tech or Transportation fee. You can now transfer these credits through your PowerSchool Parent Portal using these instructions:
- Access your PowerSchool Parent Portal
- Select “Student Fees and Forms” in your PowerSchool account
- Select the “Menu” option on the top right of the screen
- Select the Transfer Money option which will generate a pop-up menu.
- Choose to move your credit from the current school to the desired Black Gold location.
Please note: Black Gold School Division’s Transportation fees are due in full by April 1, 2022.
CCS Edmonton Oilers Game!!
Covenant Christian School is thrilled to share a special opportunity to build community with all of you! CCS has accepted an invitation from the Oilers Entertainment Group to block off a section of reduced-price tickets for the Oilers game on January 20! Gather your friends and family and join in on the excitement, while taking advantage of our group rate, as the Oilers take on the league-leading Florida Panthers! Purchase your tickets early! These tickets would make a great Christmas gift too! See the image below for more details!
Hot Lunch is Returning!
At the last Superintendents meeting, food guidelines were changed to allow for schools to run their hot lunch programs in a safe manner. Therefore, coming in January, we will reintroduce hot lunch to CCS! We need to give some time for our amazing hot lunch crew to get reorganized and we look forward to this fantastic (and delicious) fundraiser restarting in the new year!
PAT Results 2020-2021
2020-2021 PAT marks were sent to Gr. 6 and 9 parents yesterday, November 30 and there may be some confusion for our parents/guardians in terms of results. Alberta Education only includes marks when the full test (Part A and B) is completed.
Since students only wrote Part B of ELA and FLA, the results provided by AB Education for parents are listed as N/A (the full test was not completed). For Math, students had to write both Part A and Part B of Math for AB Education to provide their mark to parents. If they didn’t write, or if they only wrote one part, the mark from AB Education for parents is listed as N/A as well (the full test was not completed).
The Board of Trustees sent home certificates to those students who achieved Excellence in ELA/FLA – Reading (Part B) and math with our standard letter and certificate and if your Gr. 6/9 student qualified, you may be receiving these shortly!
Thank you Coop!
Co-op generously donated eleven 5 gallon pails to our music program.
With these eleven buckets, we are able to have a full class set and now have the opportunity to have fun and play music on them.
The grade 5 class has already learned to play We Will Rock You.
Thank you, Coop, for your generous donation!
School Directory
We have updated the directory with a few corrections. You will receive the updated copy tomorrow at 4:00 pm
Celebration
We continue to do weekly virtual assemblies, which we call Celebration. Celebration will be held on Wednesdays for the month of December.
An invite will be emailed to parents each Tuesday with a link for you to join us.
Giving Project – Hope Mission
Greetings from the PR Committee and 2GM!
With the Christmas season upon us, we would like our CCS family to show our community how we can be Justice-Seekers! We will do this in 2 ways this holiday season.
First of all, we would like to collect new or gently used items for the Hope Mission. They recently lost many winter items due to a warehouse fire. We would like to replenish their supply by collecting the following items: coats, boots, sweaters, sweat pants, gloves, thick warm socks, scarves, toques, snow pants, blankets, and hand warmers. The PR Committee will be placing wrapped boxes in each classroom for these items. The classroom with the most donated items will receive a pizza lunch courtesy of the PR Committee!
Along with Hope Mission, we will have a Christmas tree at the front entrance of the school where students can drop off non-perishable food items that will be delivered to the local branch of the food bank.
All items can be dropped off until December 17.
Thanks, everyone!!
Junior High Advent Assignment
As we strive to teach our students to be the hands and feet of Jesus, we wanted to let you know of an amazing formational learning experience (FLEx) that is going on in our Jr. High. Between Friday, November 19, and Wednesday, December 15, 2021, our Jr. High, led by the Grade 8 classes, will be gathering items to stuff stockings for residents of Extendicare in Leduc. As we know, the last few years have continued to be challenging for our seniors and we know the effects of isolation and loneliness have been significant during the pandemic. Our goal is for our senior community to know that we care and that we are thinking of them. We would then deliver these stockings during the last week of school prior to Christmas to these locations!
From our School community, we are asking for the following items:
Disposable Camera Wallet or Change Purse
Hand Lotions
Keychain
LED Flashlight
Sunglasses
Keepsake Ornament
Stress Ball
Puzzle Book (Crosswords or Suduko)
Hobby Supplies
Photo album
Small Tools
Magnifying glass
USB Drive
Gloves Slippers
What we already have and will place in each stocking:
The Stocking
Pens
Coloured Pencils
Playing Cards
Package of Flower Seeds
Buttons
Colouring Pages
Christmas Word Search
Crossword Puzzles
Students in elementary grades can bring donations to the office.
School Council
The meeting minutes for last week’s School Council meeting are posted on our website. You can find them under About/School Council.
Lost & Found
In order to continue to limit the number of visitors in the school this year, we will continue to post a photo of our Lost & Found each week in the Chronicle. If you see an item that is your child’s, please have them pick it up the next day or email the office and we will make sure it gets home with them. We will only be holding items until the next Chronicle.

Sign In/Out Form:
In an effort to reduce the amount of shared touched surfaces, we will be using a QR code that you will need to scan with your phone for signing in and out of the school. You can also use this link if you are in your vehicle and need to sign out a student but can’t scan the code. This means that students/parents/visitors can scan the QR code when entering or leaving the office/school to sign in or sign out on their own phone/device.
Parents will also be able to sign their kids out from their vehicle in the parking lot when they arrive to pick them up for appts. etc. please use the link above if you can’t scan the QR code. We do ask that parents pull into a spot (not bus lane) where you can contact the office to let them know you have arrived and we can make eye contact with you
from the staff/office door. Students must also stop by the office before leaving the school. At that point, once a connection is made, we are able to send students out to you.
