Principal’s Message
Today was our annual BGSD School Trustee visit. The trustee visits rotate from being in-person and virtual and this year, our visit was virtual. While having them in person is always such a fun time, virtual gives us the ability to be a little more content-focused. During this time together, I had the honor of showcasing who we are to the trustees and the acting Superintendent. One of the pieces of the presentation was a video that highlighted students, staff, and parents. I wanted to extend a huge thank you to those who were able to take part in our video, and put our best foot forward to our trustee contingent!
Together, we walked through CCS’ history, our relationship between CCS and BGSD, what TfT is, why parents choose CCS, if students are ready to go to high school, and how CCS is peculiar and unique. It truly is such a blessing to showcase our school, and the keywords of community, love, and formation were overwhelming in every way. The trustees had some great comments, and I wanted to share just a few of them with all of you.
“Your students are fully cultivated – spiritually, academically, athletically, and artistically”. “The extra things make all the difference, and it shows”.
“Formational learning experiences are so important, we know you learn to cook by cooking, play instruments by playing, and being an ethical citizen takes practice too.”
“Your school sports teams are always the teams to beat, even though you are a smaller school. It obviously comes from that bigger idea of community and teamwork so prevalent in your school culture. It’s pretty neat to see”.
“The district values of ‘Relationships, Safe, Supportive Environment, and Passion” was personified in your presentation. What more could a Board want? So many great things to celebrate at Covenant Christian School. Awesome…. I mean wonder struck”!
Thank you all for making our school community and culture unique. While we are not perfect, our collaborative nature and willingness to be the body of Christ together shows over and over how we are, as James K.A Smith states, “…a peculiar people, a people who desire the kingdom of God and thus undertake their life’s expression of that desire”.

Student-Led Conferences – February 22
Save the date! We will be holding Student-Led Conferences this year on Thursday, February 22 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm in the student’s homeroom.
A student-led conference is a meeting with a student and his or her family and teachers during which the student shares his or her portfolio of work and discusses progress with family members. The student facilitates the meeting from start to finish. Student-led conferences can be implemented at all grade levels, K–9. Preparation for a conference creates an authentic purpose for good organizational and communication skills. The structure builds students’ sense of responsibility and accountability for their own learning, and it helps to hone their understanding of what it means to meet learning targets.
Successful student-led conferences require changes in the roles that teacher, student, and parent have played in traditional parent conferencing. Teachers become facilitators, students become leaders and parents become active listeners and questioners.
Teacher Role: To organize the conference environment and guarantee success. This includes guiding ‘portfolio’ collection and training students to walk through the folio with parents. The teacher would guide students on how to take their parents through the process.
Student Role: Through all stages of the student-led conference process; preparation, implementation, and evaluation, the student becomes the key participant. The student becomes responsible for working with the teacher to identify strengths, identify learning needs, and collect evidence to validate learning. In student-led conferencing, as students prepare to conference with their parents, they engage in a self-reflection process about their achievements and future goals.
Parent Role: Parents become partners in learning when students lead a conference. The opportunity for parents to have one-to-one time with their child focused on learning and achievement is important to the conferencing process. The parent’s role is to listen.
Spring Program Prop Request
We are now preparing for Aladdin Jr, which will be performed on March 20-21, 2024 at the MacLab Theatre here in Leduc.
We have started many projects but need some community assistance in preparing for the performance. Please help in the following ways.
- Costumes – A few parents are already working on dresses and costumes. We need a few more individuals who would like to design costumes for our cast, including pieces for our feature numbers.
- Construction and Painting – We have our Grade 8 parents working on sets, but we could always use more people to create, design, and build!
- Props – Please click on this link to view the list of needed props. If you have any of the items we could use, we’d be grateful for your help.
Please email Mr. Ward at [email protected] if you want to join the team!

On Friday, February 23, students are encouraged to dress up as if they were 100 years old. We’ve had some great costumes over the past years and it’s always fun to see how our students age for the day!
