    Principal’s Message:

Yesterday, CCS hosted almost 300 K-Gr. 6 teachers from throughout Black Gold School Division, for our October PD day. While this doesn’t sound like a big deal, this was actually the first in-person PD that BGSD has put on since December 2018.

When we were approached to be the hosts, my initial thought was that this was a great way to bring our theme to life! And that it did. I do want to thank those who were able to donate baking to our snack tables, and our secretarial staff for being the welcoming committee!

As people started coming into the school, I was shocked at just how many teachers have never been to our school before! Hearing them talk about the location and seeing them take pictures of the themes, murals, and student work truly made me feel proud of our school.

Just like the frog that boils in water, when you do not get to see what is going on in other schools, you can become immune to the amazing things that are going on around you! Thank you to our staff, students, and community for the amazing things that are happening at CCS. I often say it, but yesterday was truly confirmation. We are blessed to work and learn where we do!

    Announcements:

    Parent Teacher Conferences

Once again, our Parent-Teacher Conferences will be a week-long event –October 24th – 28th. We will be using our online program School Appointments to book appointment times. This will be set up shortly and an email will be sent out with further instructions on how to book an appointment with the homeroom teacher of each of your students. We strongly encourage an appointment for each student in the school. If you would like to book with more than your student’s homeroom teacher (as in junior high students have multiple teachers for different subjects), please contact that teacher directly to arrange a time to meet.

    Christian Teachers Convention

On October 19th, CCS teachers will be making their way to Calgary to attend our annual Christian Teachers Convention taking place Oct 20-21st. During this time, we will be participating in a variety of sessions with our partners in Christian education from across the province, as well as take time to team build, and get to know each other better. As always, we thank our Leduc Society for Christian Education for sending us to this impactful and meaningful conference, as well as BGSD for allowing our calendar to be different than other schools to ensure we go!

    Thank You!

As Mr. Simmons mentioned above, we want to say a HUGE Thank You to all of those who donated baking for our PD Day that we hosted yesterday. It was amazing to see so many parents come together for this event and work together as a community to welcome so many from outside our school. We heard many compliments and words of appreciation for the snacks and welcome that was given. Thank you all for showing love to our community and welcoming others to our table!

    Read-In Week

Many of our Div I and II classrooms will be participating in “Read-In Week” next week! This is an opportunity for family members, special friends, and/or people in our community to come in and read to our students. A recent study shows that only 45% of children aged 1-9 get read to 5-7 days per week, yet being read to is the single best indicator of success in school. In addition to being read to, on Wednesday, October 19th, many classes will also challenge their kiddos to bring story books to life and dress up like their favourite book character!

    Odds & Ends:

    Sign In/Out Form:

In an effort to reduce the amount of shared touched surfaces, we will be using a QR code that you will need to scan with your phone for signing in and out of the school. You can also use this link if you are in your vehicle and need to sign out a student but can’t scan the code. This means that students/parents/visitors can scan the QR code when entering or leaving the office/school to sign in or sign out on their own phone/device.

Parents will also be able to sign their kids out from their vehicle in the parking lot when they arrive to pick them up for appts. etc. please use the link above if you can’t scan the QR code. We do ask that parents pull into a spot (not bus lane) where you can contact the office to let them know you have arrived and we can make eye contact with you
from the staff/office door. Students must also stop by the office before leaving the school. At that point, once a connection is made, we are able to send students out to you.
