Tomorrow, February 20th, CCS will hold our annual “Student-Led Conferences.” These types of conferences are a little different than the traditional style of “Parent-Teacher Conferences” that we hold in November.
Successful student-led conferences require changes in the roles that teacher, student, and parent have played in traditional parent conferencing. Teachers become facilitators, students become leaders and parents become active listeners and questioners. The conferences will not have set times for each family, you may enter the room at any time during the 4:00 pm – 7:30 pm open house.
What this will look like in the classroom: Homeroom classrooms will have student work and/or experiments set up around the classroom. Students and parents will enter the classroom and find their work/experiment. Students will lead parents through what they have done and explain to them what they have learned through the assignment shown. Parents are encouraged to ask questions regarding each piece and empower their child to show off what they know! Many students/parents will be in the room at one time.
Teachers will be in the room, but they are there to ensure that the environment is organized and guide/observe the conference between child/parent. If you are looking to arrange a meeting between parent and teacher, please email the teacher directly and set up a time later on.
