Principal’s Message:
On the weekend, my wife and I were able to go down to the Maclab theater and take in the LCHS musical, “Sister Act”. Its cast consisted of five CCS alumni, who all did a great job in their respective roles (as did everyone involved.)
Watching the show, had me thinking about a variety of things when it comes to Covenant Christian students. You see, our kids do well. Regardless of a pandemic, regardless of coming from a small school setting, regardless of anything, our kids tend to excel when they go off to High School. Seeing the LCHS awards ceremony earlier this month, we see former CCS students littered through the honors sections, academic awards, photography, automotive, design, service, citizenship, and even computer science awards. If you think I missed athletics, you have to look no further than the three volleyball banners won a few weeks ago in our Jr. High program, or look in CIS basketball where four alumni are currently playing at four different universities.
But what I am most proud of are the comments I tend to hear about Covenant kids from my colleagues. I hear that they are different. That they can pick them out when they are teaching classes. This, I believe, is the reason you (and I) send your kids here. We want our kids to be peculiar. To loosely quote James K.A Smith, we want our students to desire the Kingdom of God, and spend their life striving to that desire.
Regardless of any of the difficulties we go through, let’s continue to strive for this.
Have a great break, rest up, and Merry Christmas, Covenant.

A reminder that on December 17 we will enter our term one “Report Freeze” on PowerSchool. During this week, parents will be able to access their children’s accounts and see “term” comments and current grades from their teachers. No new assignments or grades will be added until after Christmas break. If you have any questions, please call the CCS office. If it is an assessment question, the subject teacher would be the person to ask via email. Their email can be found in the course section in PowerSchool.
CCS Edmonton Oilers Game!!
Covenant Christian School is thrilled to share a special opportunity to build community with all of you! CCS has accepted an invitation from the Oilers Entertainment Group to block off a section of reduced-price tickets for the Oilers game on January 20! Gather your friends and family and join in on the excitement, while taking advantage of our group rate, as the Oilers take on the league-leading Florida Panthers! Purchase your tickets early. These tickets would make a great Christmas gift too! See the image below for more details! There are only 2 tickets left at $72.00 and only 46 at $87.00, they are going quickly.
Hot Lunch Reminder!
Hot Lunch is BAAAAACK!! We are very excited to announce the much-anticipated return of our hot lunch fundraising program. The program will run on the same day and in the same way as it did in September. The hot lunch team will follow all AHS guidelines and protocols. Orders, with payment, will be due by the last Tuesday of each month. Payment MUST be made at the time of submission for your order to be processed. If your child is absent on the day of hot lunch please notify the school office by 10:00 am if you would like anything specific done with their order. Possible options include: give the meal to a sibling for lunch or to take home or it can be put in the fridge to be picked up the day after hot lunch. If no instructions have been given, any unclaimed orders will either be given to a student who forgot their lunch or put in the staff room to be eaten or taken home by a staff member. Thank you for understanding that hot lunch has a lot of moving parts and we are limited in what we are able to accommodate. The form for January will be available soon!

Giving Project – Hope Mission — UPDATE
2GM would like to say a huge THANK YOU to our CCS Community! On Tuesday, December 14, our class was able to deliver around 70 bags of clothing to Hope Mission in Edmonton! The Donation Centre was overwhelmed and very grateful for the generosity of our school! This has been an amazing experience for our class! As we go into our Christmas break, may we all continue to be Justice-Seekers and remember those around us who might be having a difficult time this winter. Blessings to all and Merry Christmas from 2GM!
Thank you also to the PR Committee for their help in this event as well. They collected and counted all the items and then bagged them to take to Hope Mission. In total, 1887 items were collected and sent to HOPE Mission! Of those 1887 items, grade 5V collected 198 items! It was a tight race, but they are the winners of the pizza party!
Junior High Advent Assignment
As we strive to teach our students to be the hands and feet of Jesus, we wanted to let you know of a fantastic formational learning experience (FLEx) that is going on in our Jr High between Friday, November 19, and Wednesday, December 15, 2021.
During this Advent season, we combined many Bible classes and Social Studies objectives to create a Flex activity to mark a time of enriching faith and service. During these formative times, students have reflected on the greater needs in our community while discovering the big picture of God’s plan throughout the entire Bible.
As we address or social participation as a practice of good citizenship, we develop age-appropriate behaviour for social involvement as responsible service to our community and providing leadership in various areas of worship and service.
- The Grade 7 Classes organized an exceptional Advent service called “The Hanging of the Greens.” During this time, they discovered and explained why so many of the decorations we use in our homes and places of worship are deeply connected to the Bible story of redemption and restoration.
- The Grade 8s organized a stuff-a-stocking drive for residents of Extendicare in Leduc. We created 25 stockings for distribution to residents who may not have family members close during the holidays.
- The Grade 9s took on a project called “Caring for those that Care” The grade 9s collected and will present a gift basket of items to the Leduc Fire Departments later this week.
Along with this project, each Jr High class created an Advent Calendar for another class to enjoy throughout the Advent Season to build community and celebrate the love and grace of Christ.
THANK YOU FROM ALL OF US IN JUNIOR HIGH
We know that there are so many valuable organizations that are worthy of attention at this time. We all want to say thank you for all the generous donations, especially to the Stuff-a-Stocking for a Senior Drive. Your generosity is so greatly appreciated.
Lost & Found
In order to continue to limit the number of visitors in the school this year, we will continue to post a photo of our Lost & Found each week in the Chronicle. If you see an item that is your child’s, please have them pick it up the next day or email the office and we will make sure it gets home with them. We will only be holding items until the next Chronicle.
Athletics:
Basketball
Practices continued this week. Parents of athletes, please complete the permission form and make payment as soon as possible.

Society Executive Meeting Update:
The fourth Society Executive meeting for the school year was held on Monday evening, December 13. Here are some of the takeaways from our meeting:
- Special Society Meeting February 8 (save the date): – We are planning to hold a special meeting of the Society on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at 7:30pm. At this meeting we will present for your approval the budget and plans for the replacement of the school parking lot and an addition to the front of our main entrance. We anticipate this meeting will be held virtually, given the current COVID-19 restrictions. Further details will be provided in future issues of the Chronicle.
- Merry Christmas to our CCS family! – Like the year before it, 2021 has been a long and tumultuous year for our students, staff and broader CCS family. We acknowledge that many of us are “running on fumes” from the stress and emotional rollercoaster caused by the pandemic. We pray that the peace of the Holy Spirit fills you, and that you find rest in the arms of Jesus during the Christmas break!

Odds & Ends:
Sign In/Out Form:
In an effort to reduce the amount of shared touched surfaces, we will be using a QR code that you will need to scan with your phone for signing in and out of the school. You can also use this link if you are in your vehicle and need to sign out a student but can’t scan the code. This means that students/parents/visitors can scan the QR code when entering or leaving the office/school to sign in or sign out on their own phone/device.
Parents will also be able to sign their kids out from their vehicle in the parking lot when they arrive to pick them up for appts. etc. please use the link above if you can’t scan the QR code. We do ask that parents pull into a spot (not bus lane) where you can contact the office to let them know you have arrived and we can make eye contact with you
from the staff/office door. Students must also stop by the office before leaving the school. At that point, once a connection is made, we are able to send students out to you.
