    Principal’s Message:

Tomorrow will be my last school day of 2022. While we have school until the 23rd, my family and I will be sneaking away to hop on a plane to begin our Christmas just a tad early. While not ideal, I, despite my preference, cannot control everything – especially flight plans (pray for no delays, please!). For those of you who have spent some time with me around Christmas, you know that this is my favourite time of year (minus the cold, perhaps). I just really love everything about Christmas, and I work hard to make sure others are enjoying it as much as I do. With that said, I never really knew why I felt this way, but I think I have a better idea now.

It comes down to family. Getting together and seeing my family, watching them open gifts, and eating around our tables together, are all things that bring me joy. One of the greatest gifts that we receive when we come to Jesus is the gift of family. It means you don’t have to be alone – ever. From Genesis, when God puts Adam on earth, He tells us, it is not good for man to be alone. Repeatedly, through history, God uses family to show us His plan. From Moses to Joseph, to David, He shows us the importance of family. Then, in the New Testament, he really SHOWS us.

When Jesus comes to earth, he comes to complete a family unit. As a baby, he brings together Mary and Joseph and shows His love. And to all of us living in a dark world, he gives us the opportunity to see His light and become the family of Christ. As Jesus lives, we see him with his family, and in His death and resurrection, we become His eternal family.

As we begin our Christmas break, my challenge to you is to remember what Christmas is really about. It isn’t even about the food, fun, or festivities. Put the electronics down, stop stressing about the dressing, the turkey or cranberries (yuck), and spend time with each other. Enjoy each other. Give yourself the opportunity to be silly and childlike. And remember, you are never alone in the family of Christ.

From my family to yours, Merry Christmas everyone. I will see you in the new year.

    Kindergarten/New Student Registration

    Dear parents/guardians and caregivers,

Kindergarten and New Student Registration is quickly approaching! Kindergarten registration opens on January 9, 2023, for the 2023-2024 school year.

Children may begin Kindergarten in a school within the Black Gold School Division in September if they are at least 4 years 8 months old as of August 31 of the respective school year.

We encourage families to register early. Please note that programs and class preferences are subject to change based on enrollment, space and program viability.

For more information, please visit: www.blackgold.ca/schools/programs/kindergarten

Here are a few things to note regarding registration:

    • If you have a student currently in our preschool program who will be going to kindergarten in the fall, you will NEED to complete Kindergarten Registration forms (CCS Enrolment Form, Black Gold Online Registration Form, and Confidential Pastor’s Report). Our preschool is a separate program from our K-9 program and you are considered a new family.
    • If you are a current CCS family (you have older children (Grades K-9) already enrolled at CCS THIS year) and you have a student who will be registering for kindergarten in the fall, you will ONLY need to complete the Black Gold online registration form.
    • If you currently have students enrolled in Covenant this year in grades kindergarten to nine, they will automatically be enrolled at CCS for the 2023-2024 school year, you do NOT need to register them again.
    • All our registration forms (CCS Enrolment Form, Black Gold Online Registration Form, and Confidential Pastor’s Report) the process you need to go through is on our website under the Registration heading here.

    Food Bank Giving Tree

Our PR Committee is heading up the Giving Tree project again this year. We will be collecting donations for the Food Bank. Students/families can bring in dry good food items and/or cash donations. The food item donations can be brought directly to each students’ classroom. Any cash donations should be brought to the school office where there will be a collection jar set up. Donations will be collected until TOMORROW. For each donation that is brought in, students can take an ornament from the tree near the gym. They can bring the ornament to the office and also get a candy cane reindeer if they would like. Check out our progress on the candy cane tracker in the alcove by the tree near the gym!

Rabbit Hill Ski Trip – February 2, 2023

We are excited to be able to participate in our annual Grade 4-9 Ski Trip once again, after a 3-year break! Students in grades 4-9 will be going to Rabbit Hill on Thursday, February 2, 2023, to go skiing for the day! All the information is in the form on PowerSchool to be completed by Thursday, January 19, 2023. Payment MUST be made at the time of form completion in order for submission to be processed.

    12 Days of Christmas

Join us for the last Dress Up Day of our 12 Days of Christmas tomorrow! Everyone is invited to wear their ugly Christmas sweater.

    Bus Cancellation Notifications

Up to this point in time, we (CCS) have been notifying all families when buses have been canceled due to weather or maintenance issues. With the creation of the new Bus Transport App being used by Black Gold Transportation, there is now duplicate/redundant information being sent out. Therefore, we have decided that CCS will no longer send out bus cancelation emails to all families. Up-to-date information on ALL buses (including CCS Buses) can be found using the Bus Transport App.

Please see the information below in order to download the Bus Transport App.

    New! CCS Athletic Handbook

Something that CCS has been working on for a while, is a new athletic handbook for all of our school teams, athletes, coaches, and parents.

While coaches will be asked to go through this with parents at the beginning of an athletic season, please familiarize yourself with the handbook when you have a spare moment. We are sure you will agree, there is a lot of very important information within the handbook.

    Celebration

We hold weekly assemblies, which we call Celebration. We alternate between Wednesday and Thursday mornings each month so our kindergarten students are each able to join us every other month. We will hold Celebration on Wednesdaysfor the month of January. All parents are welcome to join us each week!

    Hot Lunch

We are excited to once again offer a weekly Hot Lunch Day! This year, Hot Lunches will be on Wednesdays

We are noticing that a number of our families are unintentionally placing more than one order for hot lunch day/student. If you are unsure if you have ordered a hot lunch or not, you can always check your email for a confirmation receipt. You can also check under the Completed Forms tab on your student’s PowerSchool account. All of your completed forms will be listed there and you can view them each by clicking on the small eye icon.

Please see the photo below for where to find this.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding Hot Lunch, you can reach our Hot Lunch Coordinator, Mrs. Hofstra, via email at: [email protected]

    Lost & Found

We will post weekly pictures of our lost and found. If you see something that is your child’s, please have them stop by the table and pick it up or let the office know. All items unclaimed by this Friday will be donated to a second-hand store.

    Odds & Ends:

    Sign In/Out Form:

In an effort to reduce the amount of shared touched surfaces, we will be using a QR code that you will need to scan with your phone for signing in and out of the school. You can also use this link if you are in your vehicle and need to sign out a student but can’t scan the code. This means that students/parents/visitors can scan the QR code when entering or leaving the office/school to sign in or sign out on their own phone/device.

Parents will also be able to sign their kids out from their vehicle in the parking lot when they arrive to pick them up for appts. etc. please use the link above if you can’t scan the QR code. We do ask that parents pull into a spot (not bus lane) where you can contact the office to let them know you have arrived and we can make eye contact with you
from the staff/office door. Students must also stop by the office before leaving the school. At that point, once a connection is made, we are able to send students out to you.
