    Principal’s Message:

As the calendar turns to June, the sun finally pops up, and our thoughts begin to slowly turn towards summer. As the school year draws to a close, one thing we find is that our students can sometimes forget some of the rules that we work so hard on all year. With that said, we correct and remind, and move on. The same can be said for some of our rules in the parking lot, and just like with our students, I want to correct, remind, and move on with you all too!

Please remember that in order for our parking lot to run smoothly and safely (as it was not originally created for the amount of traffic we now receive), we need to ensure that we are following the correct lanes that we have set up. All vehicles should move in through the entrance, make the hard left-hand turn and either come up through the close lane or far lane to drop their child off or at the end of the day, park to come and pick them up. Once you have parked at the end of the day, please use the crosswalk to go to the basketball area to pick your child up, and use the crosswalk to go back to your vehicle if parked in the second row.

Please make sure you are NOT dropping off your children near the garbage cans, nor are you cutting through the grass to cut in line/save yourself time or are driving in any such way that is not predictable for our students and staff. As we all have places to be, we want to make sure everyone arrives there safely.

If we all follow these simple rules, it goes quickly, and our children can get to school and back home safely.

    Announcements:

Early Dismissal TODAY at 2:30 pm

Just a reminder that today is early dismissal at 2:30 pm. This will be our last early dismissal for the school year! All students should be picked up by 2:35 pm.

    Stock Trailer Needed

Our CTF Kingdom Building classes are planning to go on a bike trip through Voyageur Park in Devon on Wednesday, June 15, for the afternoon. In order to transport the student’s bikes to Devon, we are in need of a stock trailer. If you, or someone you know, has a stock trailer they are willing to lend us/drive to Devon, please contact Mr. Ward at [email protected].

Field Trips, Field Trips, Field Trips!

As you may have realized, we have many field trips again this year! We are so excited for the students to be able to participate in these trips again. Just a reminder to check your child’s PowerSchool account often over the next weeks and complete any forms that have been posted so your child can attend the field trip.

    Learning Commons Year-End Information

The end of the school year is quickly approaching (where did it go???).  The library will be closed for this school year on June 10 to allow time for year-end inventory.

June 7-10- All library books that students have out should be returned during this week. Any library books outstanding after June 10 will be marked lost and the fee added to their Powerschool account. (If the book is returned by June 27, the fee will be removed) after June 27, no refunds will be issued.

Textbook returns will be June 20-27. Junior high students can return their textbooks prior to or following their final exam.

Emails will be sent out to students and parents for unreturned items.

If you receive an email and have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at: [email protected]

    Pastor’s Day

Next Wednesday, June 10, we will gladly be resuming a Covenant tradition and celebrating our pastors. All of the pastors connected to CCS should have received an email in the past couple of weeks inviting them to come and join us for Celebration. They will get to worship with us, sit in Mr. Simmons’ interview seat so we can learn a few new things about them, and then enjoy a time of fellowship and brunch made by the PR Committee following Celebration.

Grade 6 & 9 PATs and Junior High Exam Schedule

***Grade 6 students will remain at the school and continue with classes for the remainder of their day. Permission to leave after exams is only applicable to junior high students.

    • Exams will begin at 9:00 am and students must stay until 11:00 am. Students must bring a book to read while they wait. Phones/Gaming devices will not be permitted due to exam protocols.
    • At 11:00 am students are free to leave provided they have the signed documentation, an online form will be emailed out in the next couple of weeks with further details.
    • Students without documentation will be in ‘study hall’ in their own classroom area. Once all exams have been completed teachers will go back to their homeroom to supervise.
    • Beginning at 11:00 am there will be three check-out tables (7,8,9) in three different locales around the foyer. At 11:00 am, once students have completed their exam they will go to their check-out area to wait for their ride. We hope these will be set up outside if the weather permits.

    Hot Lunch

We have moved Hot lunch forms to a weekly format. The deadline will generally be Tuesdays at midnight for the following week’s order. However, if there is a holiday, ie. spring break, this may change slightly. Deadlines for order/payment will always be listed on the order form. ***If your child is absent on a hot lunch day, you will need to notify the office before 10:30 am if you would like the lunch saved or given to a sibling. If this is your request, the saved lunches will be delivered to the office and the sibling will need to come to the office to pick up the lunch. If no notification is received by this time, the lunch will be given away to another student who has forgotten their lunch.

    Celebration

We are excited to be back in person for our weekly Celebration assemblies! Celebration will be held on Wednesdays for the month of June. All parents are welcome to join us!!

    Lost & Found

We will continue to post a photo of our Lost & Found each week in the Chronicle. If you see an item that is your child’s, please have them pick it up the next day or email the office and we will make sure it gets home with them.

    Athletics:

    Soccer

Practices for the upcoming tournament will be held on Tuesday and Thursday after school until 4:30 pm. The team will be playing in a tournament on Friday, June 3, and Saturday, June 4.

Please see your child’s PowerSchool account at the end week to complete the form and pay any associated fees.

    Track and Field

Black Gold Elementary Track and Field Meet will be held on Thursday, June 9 at Riverview Middle School. If your child qualified to participate, you will have received an email with further details. Please log in to your child’s PowerSchool account to complete the permission form. Parent helpers would be appreciated for the day. Please contact Mr. Drader at [email protected] if you would like to help out with the day.

Our junior high students participated in the LDAA Track and Field Meet at the high school on May 24th. We had many athletes represent CCS and finish well in numerous events. Students who placed in the top 3 at the LDAA track meet will go on to the Zones Track Meet in St. Albert this week, Thursday, June 2. Please check PowerSchool by the end of the week to complete the permission form if your son/daughter has qualified for this event.

If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Drader at [email protected].

Registration has now opened for our 2022 Covenant Christian School Golf Tournament! For those who came to our first annual event, you know that it was a ton of fun! With Roger Anderson and his crew of 4 sneaking away with the lowest score on the challenging Leduc Golf Course, the only question is, will they go back-to-back!?

    Odds & Ends:

    Sign In/Out Form:

In an effort to reduce the amount of shared touched surfaces, we will be using a QR code that you will need to scan with your phone for signing in and out of the school. You can also use this link if you are in your vehicle and need to sign out a student but can’t scan the code. This means that students/parents/visitors can scan the QR code when entering or leaving the office/school to sign in or sign out on their own phone/device.

Parents will also be able to sign their kids out from their vehicle in the parking lot when they arrive to pick them up for appts. etc. please use the link above if you can’t scan the QR code. We do ask that parents pull into a spot (not bus lane) where you can contact the office to let them know you have arrived and we can make eye contact with you
from the staff/office door. Students must also stop by the office before leaving the school. At that point, once a connection is made, we are able to send students out to you.
