    Principal’s Message:

On Friday, we will once again celebrate our Grade 9 class as they depart for high school. This long-lasting tradition has seen many variations and looks, but every year is unique to the class and the school. Regardless of what our program looks like, the reasoning for it always remains the same; to honour our Grade 9’s and send them off to high school, in a prayerful manner. As they leave, we get to remind them that they are the body of Christ, and the winding road they are on always leads back to the narrow door.

As we are now back to having the community join us for the celebration after two years, it is a prime opportunity for us to reimagine it a little bit. This year, we will begin our time at Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church at 6:00 pm, where we will have our ceremony, then the students, and those who have RSVP’d, will have a standing reception including a food truck outside. This is a slight change from the past, but will still be a great time of care and love for our kiddos!

I am so excited to see our Grade 9’s on Friday evening, dressed up, and ready to roll!

    Announcements:

    Grade 9 Graduation

We will be hosting our grade 9 graduation ceremony and celebration this Friday, June 10 at 6:00 pm at Ebenezer Christian Reformed Church. All are welcome to attend the ceremony. There will be a standing reception to follow for the graduates and those who have RSVP’d. There will also be a live stream link available on Ebenezer’s website for those who can not make it.

Grade 7 parents have been asked to bring in a package of assorted individual chip bags to help out with the grad. Grade 9 parents, please remember to label your plates/containers so they can be returned to you following graduation.

Field Trips, Field Trips, Field Trips!

As you may have realized, we have many field trips again this year! We are so excited for the students to be able to participate in these trips again. Just a reminder to check your child’s PowerSchool account often over the next weeks and complete any forms that have been posted so your child can attend the field trip. All upcoming field trips should be on our website calendar now as well under the Calendar heading and then CCS Events Calendar!

    Learning Commons Year-End Information

The end of the school year is quickly approaching (where did it go???).  The library will be closed for this school year on June 10 to allow time for year-end inventory.

June 7-10- All library books that students have out should be returned during this week. Any library books outstanding after June 10 will be marked lost and the fee added to their Powerschool account. (If the book is returned by June 27, the fee will be removed) after June 27, no refunds will be issued.

Textbook returns will be June 20-27. Junior high students can return their textbooks prior to or following their final exam.

Emails will be sent out to students and parents for unreturned items.

If you receive an email and have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at: [email protected]

    Pastor’s Day

This morning, we resumed a Covenant tradition and celebrated our pastors! All of the pastors connected to CCS were invited to join us for Celebration and stay for a brunch put on by the PR Committee. It was great to gather and honour our pastors once again!

Stay in the Story Junior High Bible Classes Displays

Parents and friends are invited to view a year-end project completed by all of our junior high students as they reflect on faith, learning, and teaching for transformation. This event will be held on Friday, June 17 from 2:00 pm til 3:00 pm. Please feel free to join us at the school and take a tour of the exhibits.

    School Council

That’s a wrap! We had our last meeting for the 2021/2022 school year on May 26th. It was lovely to have Mrs. Chapman join us. We spent time in prayer thanking God for being with us through the ups and downs of this past year and asking for guidance as we enter a new school year.

We had another successful Staff Appreciation week. Thank you to the PR Committee and our Principal, Mr. Simmons, for all their hard work. The staff was treated to waffles, tacos, wings, coffee & treats, and pizza. Can you say yummy?!

I would like to thank Leanne Simmons for being vice-chair and Candace Dreger for being the secretary. Thank you ladies for being so willing to serve. We appreciate it! For all the ladies/gents who showed up and made for some great conversations and showed interest in our school, it’s been awesome! See you in the fall!

    • Exams will begin at 9:00 am and students must stay until 11:00 am. Students must bring a book to read while they wait. Phones/Gaming devices will not be permitted due to exam protocols.
    • At 11:00 am students are free to leave provided they have the signed documentation, an online form will be emailed out in the next couple of weeks with further details.
    • Students without documentation will be in ‘study hall’ in their own classroom area. Once all exams have been completed teachers will go back to their homeroom to supervise.
    • Beginning at 11:00 am there will be three check-out tables (7,8,9) in three different locales around the foyer. At 11:00 am, once students have completed their exam they will go to their check-out area to wait for their ride. We hope these will be set up outside if the weather permits.

    Year-End Celebrations

We are excited to be able to return to some of our year-end celebrations that have been traditions over the past years. For the last day of school, Tuesday, June 28, the itinerary will be as follows:

    • 8:40 am – Classes Begin
    • 10:30 am – Year-End Celebration (awards/scholarships, prayer for those leaving CCS, announcements for next year)
    • 12:00 pm – Lunch (Year-end pizza lunch and Kona Ice-more details to follow/below) Junior Highs leave to go on Bowling field trip
    • 1:00 pm – Homerooms/cleanup etc.
    • 3:15 pm – Staff Wave Goodbye as Buses/students leave for the summer!

SCHOOL WIDE PICNIC –  We will once again be doing a school-wide pizza lunch. This is not a hot lunch sponsored event but will run similar to hot lunch (will go through the same payment system-look for the form early next week on PowerSchool). Any money that is made from this lunch will go to the Grade 3 Zambia water fundraiser. All parents and younger siblings etc are invited to join us! Our LSCE PR committee will also be providing a KONA ICE treat for all of our staff and kiddos! Visitors will be able to purchase their own Kona Ice treat if they choose as well.

    Class Placements and Supply Lists

Staples will be continuing their School Tools Package program where parents can order all of their child’s school supplies online and they will be delivered to your home address so you can skip the back-to-school supply shopping in the fall. Click on the link above, and then find your child’s grade/class. You can deselect items you don’t need/want and add them to your cart. Go to the checkout to make payment and add your home address for shipping and you’re done!

Supply lists will also be posted on our website and a copy will be emailed out to parents along with their child’s class placement letter at the end of June.

    Hot Lunch

We have moved Hot lunch forms to a weekly format. The deadline will generally be Tuesdays at midnight for the following week’s order. However, if there is a holiday, ie. spring break, this may change slightly. Deadlines for order/payment will always be listed on the order form. ***If your child is absent on a hot lunch day, you will need to notify the office before 10:30 am if you would like the lunch saved or given to a sibling. If this is your request, the saved lunches will be delivered to the office and the sibling will need to come to the office to pick up the lunch. If no notification is received by this time, the lunch will be given away to another student who has forgotten their lunch.

    Celebration

We are excited to be back in person for our weekly Celebration assemblies! Celebration will be held on Wednesdays for the month of June. All parents are welcome to join us!!

    Lost & Found

We will continue to post a photo of our Lost & Found each week in the Chronicle. If you see an item that is your child’s, please have them pick it up the next day or email the office and we will make sure it gets home with them.

    Athletics:

    Soccer

Our Grade 5/6 Soccer team had a great time playing in the tournament over the weekend.

    Track and Field

Black Gold Elementary Track and Field Meet will be held tomorrow, June 9 at Riverview Middle School. If your child qualified to participate, you will have received an email with further details. Please log in to your child’s PowerSchool account to complete the permission form. We are still in need of a few parent helpers for track day tomorrow. Please contact Mr. Drader at [email protected] if you would like to help out.

CCS Golf Tournament – Sunday, June 26, 2022

Registration has now opened for our 2022 Covenant Christian School Golf Tournament! For those who came to our first annual event, you know that it was a ton of fun! With Roger Anderson and his crew of 4 sneaking away with the lowest score on the challenging Leduc Golf Course, the only question is, will they go back-to-back!?

We are aiming for 144 golfers to join us (and are at about half of that!!) and take part in an afternoon that is filled with prizes, giveaways, and hopefully some bad golf! Mr. Simmons will once again be willing to take a shot for you on one of the Par 3’s (he promises to try not to put so many people in the sand this time), and we have secured a $10,000 hole-in-one prize! Not to mention, we will once again have the opportunity to win a year of free tuition, just be closest to the pin on our 100-yard challenge (taking place immediately after all teams finish, and before supper!)

If you want to sign up as a player, or if you would like to take on a sponsorship opportunity, please check out our website found HERE for more details! Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact [email protected].

    Odds & Ends:

    Sign In/Out Form:

In an effort to reduce the amount of shared touched surfaces, we will be using a QR code that you will need to scan with your phone for signing in and out of the school. You can also use this link if you are in your vehicle and need to sign out a student but can’t scan the code. This means that students/parents/visitors can scan the QR code when entering or leaving the office/school to sign in or sign out on their own phone/device.

Parents will also be able to sign their kids out from their vehicle in the parking lot when they arrive to pick them up for appts. etc. please use the link above if you can’t scan the QR code. We do ask that parents pull into a spot (not bus lane) where you can contact the office to let them know you have arrived and we can make eye contact with you
from the staff/office door. Students must also stop by the office before leaving the school. At that point, once a connection is made, we are able to send students out to you.
