    Principal’s Message:

I was planning on writing today about one of two things. Either the Oilers win last night, and then using the third goal scored against the Oilers as a metaphor of resilience and keeping with the plan when things go wrong or about the groundbreaking ceremony of Opaho High School I attended this morning. But I can’t. The thing that keeps coming to my mind is the school shooting that occurred yesterday in Uvalde, Texas. As of now, 18 young students, 2 teachers, and 2 others have been confirmed deceased. This is absolutely heartbreaking and should be shocking.

I have written about school shootings before, but I do not feel that we should ever get to the point that it is something we just brush off and not stop and pray about. But we can’t stop there. We need to have action. It is my hope that you often hear me say that my first job at school is to ensure that our students are safe, cared for and loved as He has loved us, and it is something I take very seriously. In order to do that, we do drills, we have safety protocols in place, and yes, we even make you ring that silly doorbell to come in.

As we see darkness all around us, it is my hope that we, as a community, can put aside any perceived differences we have with one another, put aside our frustrations in other things going on in our world, and be that shining light we are called to be. In dark times, we need to be as obvious as the moon. Okay, be forewarned that my former experience as a Grade 6 science teacher is coming out. As I hope you remember, the moon does not emit light, it reflects it. Just as Jesus is the light of the world, we are to reflect His love by loving one another.

In times like these, let’s reflect on His love and our love for others in the practices and conversations in our homes, and also reflect the love of Christ to the world.

John 16:33: “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

    Grade 9 Mini Mall/Market

Tickets can be purchased through your child’s Powerschool Accounts and are now available!

No cash will be accepted or tickets refunded. All ticket purchases must be made through PowerSchool by midnight on May 26, 2022

We hope you will join us for Covenant Christian Grade 9 Mini-Mall!  Our Mini-Mall has been an annual school-wide community event. It combines the Grade 9s learning in Social Studies on Economics with a fund-raising opportunity for their graduation by creating a mini-business to sell products to other students.

This year we are operating Mini-Mall in-person. You can also preview items on the Mini-Mall Market Webpage with your child, you can look through the catalogue and engage in meaningful conversation about financial literacy, budgeting, stewardship, and consumerism.

The students’ products will be available on Friday, May 27 from 11:10 to 12:10. Homeroom teachers will be escorting children through the mini-mall at that time. Parents are also welcome to join us at the school for this event. Tickets will be available in books of 20 tickets for $5. Most items at mini-mall cost between 4-12 tickets ($1.00-$3.00).

    Stock Trailer Needed

Our CTF Kingdom Building classes are planning to go on a bike trip through Voyageur Park in Devon on Wednesday, June 15, for the afternoon. In order to transport the student’s bikes to Devon, we are in need of a stock trailer. If you, or someone you know, has a stock trailer they are willing to lend us/drive to Devon, please contact Mr. Ward at [email protected].

    School Council

Tomorrow, May 26th, is our last School Council meeting immediately following Celebration. We hope to see you there!

Grade 6 & 9 PATs and Junior High Exam Schedule

    • Exams will begin at 9:00 am and students must stay until 11:00 am. Students must bring a book to read while they wait. Phones/Gaming devices will not be permitted due to exam protocols.
    • At 11:00 am students are free to leave provided they have the signed documentation, an online form will be emailed out in the next couple of weeks with further details.
    • Students without documentation will be in ‘study hall’ in their own classroom area. Once all exams have been completed teachers will go back to their homeroom to supervise.
    • Beginning at 11:00 am there will be three check-out tables (7,8,9) in three different locales around the foyer. At 11:00 am, once students have completed their exam they will go to their check-out area to wait for their ride. We hope these will be outside but are weather permitting.

    Hot Lunch

We have moved Hot lunch forms to a weekly format. The deadline will generally be Tuesdays at midnight for the following week’s order. However, if there is a holiday, ie. spring break, this may change slightly. Deadlines for order/payment will always be listed on the order form. ***If your child is absent on a hot lunch day, you will need to notify the office before 10:30 am if you would like the lunch saved or given to a sibling. If this is your request, the saved lunches will be delivered to the office and the sibling will need to come to the office to pick up the lunch. If no notification is received by this time, the lunch will be given away to another student who has forgotten their lunch.

    Celebration

We were excited to be back in person for our weekly Celebration assemblies! Celebration will be held on Wednesdays for the month of June. All parents are welcome to join us!!

We will continue to post a photo of our Lost & Found each week in the Chronicle. If you see an item that is your child’s, please have them pick it up the next day or email the office and we will make sure it gets home with them.

Registration has now opened for our 2022 Covenant Christian School Golf Tournament! For those who came to our first annual event, you know that it was a ton of fun! With Roger Anderson and his crew of 4 sneaking away with the lowest score on the challenging Leduc Golf Course, the only question is, will they go back-to-back!?

    Odds & Ends:

    Sign In/Out Form:

In an effort to reduce the amount of shared touched surfaces, we will be using a QR code that you will need to scan with your phone for signing in and out of the school. You can also use this link if you are in your vehicle and need to sign out a student but can’t scan the code. This means that students/parents/visitors can scan the QR code when entering or leaving the office/school to sign in or sign out on their own phone/device.

Parents will also be able to sign their kids out from their vehicle in the parking lot when they arrive to pick them up for appts. etc. please use the link above if you can’t scan the QR code. We do ask that parents pull into a spot (not bus lane) where you can contact the office to let them know you have arrived and we can make eye contact with you
from the staff/office door. Students must also stop by the office before leaving the school. At that point, once a connection is made, we are able to send students out to you.
