    Principal’s Message:

As previously mentioned, Covenant will be hosting the annual Prairie Center for Christian Education Convention this month! Coming up on October 19th and 20th, we will welcome over 400 Christian Educators from across the province. This will be CCS’ first time hosting and I must say, I am incredibly excited to welcome them all into our school and our community.

During the conference, we will be hearing from a keynote, and then breaking into smaller groups to talk about so many different pressing issues occurring in Christian Education today. This is an incredibly important part of the school year, as not only are we all coming together to learn and fellowship together, but it allows each staff group to bond together.

While we will be getting to sleep in our own beds for this convention (and not staying in a hotel like our visitors), we still will be doing some team building and of course, breaking bread together. While this sounds almost mundane or even normal, for the teaching profession it is not. Having a full lunch break with the entire staff is something we don’t often get to do, as your kids are always our first priority. Supervision, coaching, lesson planning, counseling, etc. seem to take up our time while our students are outside for recess.

While I am sure your kids will enjoy their “long weekend” during this time, please know that the Christian Teachers Convention is going to be a busy but exciting one for the staff at CCS! If you are at all interested in moving tables and chairs to get our gym and auditorium all set up for our guests, please feel free to email me ([email protected]). We definitely could use a few extra hands on Wednesday, October 18th, and Friday, October 20th to get the school ready for either the conference or back to how it needs to be for school!

    Announcements

    School Council

School Council had our Annual General meeting on September 28th. We are pleased to announce that Candace Dreger was elected as Chair, Leanne Simmons as Vice Chair, and Malissa Huillery as Secretary. Thank you for your willingness to serve. Our next meeting is October 25th following Celebration. Come and hear what’s happening around our school.

In accordance with being good Earth-Keepers, we are asking if parents could please send cutlery with their children’s lunches. The office is going through plastic cutlery quite rapidly. This also saves on money and traffic to the office.

    Canadian Foodgrains Bank

This year the grade 8 students have the opportunity to visit the local harvest of a wheat field in support of Canadian Foodgrains Bank. We are hoping to be able to attend the harvest this week, but it is weather-dependent.

We will view the farm machinery in the process of harvesting the wheat as it relates to our unit from last year in Science 7 (plants for food and fibre). We had a guest speaker (Ary Vreeken) speak with us last year about God’s call to us to feed the hungry and poor. If you would like to donate to this amazing cause, please use the link below.

    LifeTouch School Photos

We will once again have LifeTouch coming to our school to take photos for us. This year, we will be combining individual photos AND class photos on the same day, instead of individual photos now and class photos in the Spring. They will be at our school on Wednesday, October 11th, and Thursday, October 12th. The schedule for photos will be as follows:

    Wednesday, October 11:

    • Kindergarten Vande Kraats, 1B, 1G, 2GM, 2W, 3H, 3J, 4CV, 4LV, 5J, 5M, 6B

    Thursday, October 12:

    • Preschool, Kindergarten Luchak, 7C, 7/8H, 8W, 9S

We are in need of a parent helper for each day to help our photographer organize students and make the day go smoothly. If you are interested in helping us with either/both photo day(s) please email the office at [email protected].

    School Immunization Information

Children who are eligible for immunizations may be immunized in the school setting with parent/guardian consent. Those that are needing immunizations were sent home with an envelope containing the consent forms and further information. Please check your child’s school bag for this package which contains information about the vaccines, along with a consent form for each vaccine.  For your child to be immunized in school, consent must be provided to AHS staff verbally or each consent form must be signed and returned to your child’s school by the date indicated on the envelope. If you are not wanting your child to be immunized at school, please write “refused” on the form AND return it to the school so you do not receive a follow-up phone call on the day of immunizations requesting your consent.

For tips on preparing your child for immunizations, please refer to https://www.albertahealthservices.ca/assets/info/hp/cdc/if-hp-cdc-ipsm-tips-make-imm-easier-child.pdf

The immunization round dates at Covenant Christian will be Dec 5, 2023

*If your child is not present on the round dates they may receive immunizations on other dates throughout the school year.

***If you are new to Alberta OR if your child has been immunized at your doctor’s office or pharmacy, AHS Public Health may not have a record of your child’s immunizations.  To ensure your child is up to date with all recommended immunizations refer to the schedule at https://www.alberta.ca/immunization-routine-schedule.aspx

To provide an up-to-date immunization record or if you have any questions you may contact the nurse assigned to your child’s school at 780-980-5026

    Matching Donation

As mentioned in previous Chronicles, we have been blessed with an opportunity to match $250,000 towards our school. Please share this information with your family and friends who may consider giving so we can make the most of this generous opportunity. If successful, we will be using these donations for things to ensure our students are able to have greater advantages in their learning. These include but are not limited to:

    • Air conditioning in the portables
    • musical instruments
    • 3D Printers
    • Robotics
    • Sporting Equipment
    • 1:1 Chromebooks

If after praying and thinking about it, you want to donate money to the school and take advantage of this matching offer, the easiest way to do this is by EFT or cheque to the LSCE. The LSCE email for EFT transfer is: [email protected]. Coming down to the school and writing a cheque is also always a possibility. Donations of $20 or more come with a charitable donation receipt.

I want to thank all of you for your prayerful consideration of this opportunity.
