    Principal’s Message:

I am writing to you while sitting in a Christian Schools Canada conference in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I have had a chance to speak with educational leaders from all over the world, in fact, I am currently sitting in between two dynamic superintendents from Australia! Yet, in all of our conversations, my heart and mind keep coming back to Leduc. It keeps coming back to the student community of Covenant Chrisitan School and how we can effectively create flourishing learners, who delight in God and who are inspired to serve His Kingdom.

In one of the workshops I was in on Tuesday, we were looking at how our school mission comes alive through our curriculum choices and how we can use the standards taught as a vehicle to encourage our students to generate solutions to real-world problems.

While I feel TfT allows us to do this in all of our core classes, it actually brought my thought process to Jr. High CTF, specifically this year’s school drama production! As a vehicle for learning, we ask that our CTF options are directly related to concepts students are exploring in school to deepen and provide creative ways of representing understanding. If I think of our school theme this year, of the Stable Table, and understanding not only are we all welcome at God’s table but that it is also a place where we can come and share in community together, our drama is the perfect choice for this curricular and theological link. You see, this year, we are asking our community to “be our guest,” to realize that looks are only skin deep, and that it is who we were created to be that matters most. God does not see the big muscles or warts, or the “beasts” we can show to others. God knows that within us, is the person He created, the reflection of His image. He knows that He created beauty within us, and it is our job to shine that beauty to others.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is my pleasure to invite you to our table. On Wednesday, March 22, and Thursday, March 23 we ask you to be our guest, as we present: “Beauty and the Beast,” the musical.

    Announcements:

Orange Shirt Day – Thursday, September 29

Tomorrow, Thursday, September 29 we are asking all of our students and staff to wear orange to show support for “Orange shirt day”, which is a visual acknowledgment of National Truth and Reconciliation day.

Wearing orange in Oilers country is a pretty easy thing to do, but it is more than that. Students will be learning about Orange shirt day in age-appropriate ways during some of their classes as well. This might be in LA, Social, or even Art class. As we are called to act with love, compassion, and justice, we can say, “Every Child Matters” with truth. While we cannot change the past, we can learn about, acknowledge, and support ways to be light in the darkness.

    Individual School Photos

We will once again have LifeTouch coming to our school to take individual school photos for us. They will be at our school on Wednesday, October 12, and Thursday, October 13. The schedule for photos will be as follows:

We are in need of a parent helper forThursday, October 13for most of the day to help our photographer organize students and make the day go smoothly. You will be compensated with discount coupons for photo packages. If you are interested in helping us with either/both photo day(s) please email the office at [email protected].

Food Drive/Bake Sale Hosted by CV34!

CV34! is having a food drive! We have been studying about the poor woman who gave all she had to God.  As a class, we wanted to give back to God as well.  Our school theme is Stable Table, so we wanted to ensure others had enough at their table.  All donations will be brought to the Leduc Food Bank.  Please bring any of the following: canned food, sugar-free juice, pasta, rice, cereal, pet food, and personal items.  There will be a collection box in front of the office.

We will also be hosting a bake sale on September 29 from 11:55-12:20 to raise money for this worthwhile cause.  All treats will be sold for $1.00/piece.

    Perry Springman Concert-October 3

On Monday, October 3rd, at 2:00 pm the Kinder – Grade 6’s will be taking part in a special chapel that will be led by “The Springmans!”

The Springmans are a Vancouver-based, award-winning Christian music group that brings their unique style of ukulele-strumming, djembe-drumming, and guitar-picking catchy songs to audiences all over North America and Europe!  Playing acoustic guitar, and ukulele, Perry Springman is joined by his four kids: Emma (18), Ryan (15), Sarah (13), and Jacob (11).  His kids are amazing musicians and performers who love to involve their audiences as they sing and lead music. Playing a variety of instruments including ukulele, mandolin, keyboards, violin, djembe, drum-pad, and percussion instruments, and with that innocent charm that children so often possess, they draw people of all ages into worship.  In addition to performing concerts worldwide, The Springman’s also lead worship services, school chapels for elementary, middle, and high school students,  music camps, VBS, music workshops, and seminars.

Their website http://www.thespringmans.com has additional information about their music and ministry.

    Celebration

We hold weekly assemblies, which we call Celebration. We alternate between Wednesday and Thursday mornings each month so our kindergarten students are each able to join us every other month. We will hold Celebration on Thursdays for the month of October. All parents are welcome to join us each week!

    Athletics:

    Volleyball

The Junior Girls had a great exhibition tournament experience at École Champs Vallée School this past weekend! While the day started out with some losses, the girls finished the day with solid wins as they gained confidence on the court! Their first league game took place on Tuesday where they lost in a tight match against Pigeon Lake.

The Senior Girls kick off their official season with a home game on Thursday against New Sarepta.

The Junior Boys also had a great exhibition tournament in Beaumont over the weekend. They won the majority of their games and improved together as a team throughout the day. They had their first home game last night and won all five matches against Caledonia.

The Senior Boys have their first game of the season on Thursday in New Sarepta.

    Odds & Ends:

    Sign In/Out Form:

In an effort to reduce the amount of shared touched surfaces, we will be using a QR code that you will need to scan with your phone for signing in and out of the school. You can also use this link if you are in your vehicle and need to sign out a student but can’t scan the code. This means that students/parents/visitors can scan the QR code when entering or leaving the office/school to sign in or sign out on their own phone/device.

Parents will also be able to sign their kids out from their vehicle in the parking lot when they arrive to pick them up for appts. etc. please use the link above if you can’t scan the QR code. We do ask that parents pull into a spot (not bus lane) where you can contact the office to let them know you have arrived and we can make eye contact with you
from the staff/office door. Students must also stop by the office before leaving the school. At that point, once a connection is made, we are able to send students out to you.
