PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

If you’ve seen me in the parking lot lately, bundled up in my extreme snowsuit—looking a little like Thomas from that Robert Munsch book—you know just how cold it’s been. Winter has a way of reminding us that we can’t face the cold unprepared. Conflict is the same way—it can be biting, uncomfortable, and make us want to retreat. But just like we layer up to stay warm, we need to clothe ourselves with the right mindset when facing disagreements.

The Bible calls us to 'clothe ourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience' (Colossians 3:12). This month, as we focus on Justice-Seeking, let’s remember that justice isn’t just about fairness—it’s about standing up for others, speaking truth in love, and ensuring that no one is left out in the cold. A kind word, a thoughtful action, or standing up for someone who needs support can bring warmth where it’s needed most.

With February being Anti-Bullying Month and Pink Shirt Day coming up next Wednesday, let’s be the people who bring light and warmth, even in the coldest situations. Just as the sun eventually melts the ice, forgiveness and kindness thaw even the iciest conflicts. What kind of warmth will you bring this week?

Living Books Christian Book Fair

We are thrilled to announce an exciting partnership with Living Books and the upcoming Living Books Book Fair at our school!

On April 24th and 25th, we will be hosting this amazing book fair that offers a wide range of quality products, including books, Bibles, and novelties for children and families. This is a fantastic opportunity to bring incredible resources into our school community and support our students’ love for reading and learning.

Living Books is a Saskatchewan-based business that not only offers high-quality Christian books but also provides excellent support to make the book fair easy and successful. Their reps will come to our school to run the fair, and 10% of the sales will go toward free books for our school.

We're also excited to host the Adopt a Book Program on Grandparents Day, which will coincide with the book fair. This program allows families and friends to contribute to our school library, helping us expand our collection of incredible books. It’s a wonderful way to honor grandparents while building a stronger reading culture in our school.

Let’s work together to make this book fair a huge success and fill our school with books that inspire and educate! Stay tuned for more details about how you can participate.

Check out more information about Living Books and the Book Fair here: Living Books Website

Thank you for your support!

🚗 Winter Drop-Off Reminders: 🚗

If Grandparents or others are dropping off/picking up students, please share this information!!

  1. Bus Lane: The bus lane is never for parent traffic, regardless of whether you’re in a hurry or don’t see a bus. Please respect this rule at all times.
  2. Middle Lane (Kiss and Go): This lane is for quick drop-offs only. Please do not park and exit your vehicle here.
  3. Third Lane: This lane is for parents who wish to park and walk their children into school.
  4. One-Way Flow: All lanes operate as one-way only. Please follow the directional flow to maintain safety and order.
  5. One-Lane Flow: The lanes are only one lane, there is never any passing lanes. Two cars across increases the chance of collision with a pedestrian, as well as increases, with certainty, Mr. Simmons blood pressure.

Pick-Up Reminders:

  1. Proper Parking: Even when snow covers the lines, park as properly as possible to maximize space and avoid congestion.
  2. Crosswalk Safety: Do not park where the crosswalk extends. It’s vital for our students to use crosswalks safely and without obstruction.
  3. Full Lap Rule: If no spots are available, continue around the loop and return to see if a spot has opened. Please do not stop in the middle and block others.
  4. No Speeding: Corners can be tricky; please drive cautiously and at a safe speed.
  5. Staff Parking Lot: This lot is reserved for staff only. Parents should not park here.
  6. Patience is Key: You are in a warm car. Please demonstrate patience for the sake of everyone’s safety.
  7. One-Way Flow: All lanes are single-lane and one-way, just as they are during drop-off.
  8. Ditches: The ditch is not for vehicles to use as a shortcut to the parking lot. Vehicles MUST be on the road only!

Why These Rules Matter

As adults, we have the responsibility to create a safe, predictable environment for our children. Kids can be unpredictable, as is their nature, and by following these rules, we are doing our part to protect them. Your cooperation in modeling respect and patience goes a long way in ensuring everyone’s safety.

Thank you for your attention to these guidelines. By working together, we can make our parking lot safe and efficient for all families.

TEACHING FOR TRANSFORMATION

One of the ways we teach for transformation at Covenant is by looking at the curriculum through a framework that invites us to reveal God’s story in all things. This framework guides us to look at the content we teach through four distinct parts (as described on the CACE/TFT Website).

Creation: The biblical story tells us that God created and sustains all things. God gave us life and controls all things. He made humans have a special relationship with Him, and gave humans His creation mandate that directs human life. Creation is good, not only physical and biological creation but the cultural strands God has woven into its fabric. Here the focus is on what God intended things to be like, the way it ought to be.

Fall: The biblical story tells us that all things have fallen as a result of sin and that every facet and part of the world is twisted by evil. The consequence is pain and suffering, brokenness and idolatry. Therefore all things, human life and culture, have become distorted and shaped by idolatry. The widespread effects of sin are obvious but God is still faithful and promises liberation from the bondage to decay.

Redemption: The biblical story tells us that although humans fell into sin, God had a plan for redemption through the sacrifice of His Son. Jesus came to earth to restore creation from the distorting influence of sin and redeem all things so we can get back on track with God’s original design and purpose. Through the redemptive work of Jesus who holds all things together, the power of sin has been dealt with. Now, as redeemed people we participate, and look forward to the restoration of the whole creation.

Renewal: The biblical story tells us that we are called to live in the light of this coming restoration as faithful agents. We are responding to God’s invitation to work toward ongoing redemption as we fulfill our original mandate to care for and develop His creation. God is sovereign and He calls us to join Him with the active presence of the Holy Spirit. We can gratefully respond to God by living a life of service and partnership as all things move toward complete restoration. One of the calls of the Christian school is to invite students to be involved with God’s redemptive work and the transformation of His world.
