PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

As we continue to walk through February, and talking about conflict, I have been feeling God speaking to me at various times. This past Sunday, a song was sung—one I’d heard before but never really paid much attention to. But this time, a particular verse caught my ear:

"I'm calling on the God of David
Who made a shepherd boy courageous
I may not face Goliath
But I’ve got my own giants."

The song, Same God, reminded me of how easy it is to overlook something familiar and how a moment of curiosity can reveal something new and meaningful.

As we walk through life (the theme we’ve been embracing this year), we face our own “giants”—uncertainties, challenges, questions, and even difficult conflicts. It’s in these moments that we have a choice: to approach with judgment or with curiosity and love. The Bible calls us not to judge, but to love as Christ loved us (John 13:34-35). Instead of assuming we know someone’s story, what would it look like to ask more questions, to seek understanding, to extend grace, to love our neighbour?

David was just a shepherd, overlooked by many, yet God saw his heart and used him in incredible ways. How often do we make quick judgments about others - without pausing to see them as God sees them? What if we replaced judgment with curiosity? Instead of assuming, we could ask, What’s their story? How is God at work in their life?

We may not be facing Goliath, but we all have giants. Thankfully, we serve the same God who gives courage, wisdom, and love for the journey ahead.

Covenant Christian School Presents: The Little Mermaid Jr.

Calling All Helping Hands! 🛠️

Dear Parents & Guardians,

Our Junior High production of Little Mermaid Junior is quickly approaching, and we need your support to bring the magic to life! 🎭

We will be hosting the first Work Bee on Saturday, February 1st10:00am-3:30pm,  and we’re looking for volunteers to help with set and prop construction. Whether you’re a crafting pro or just willing to lend a hand, every bit of help makes a big difference!

Tasks include:

🔹 Transforming our throne into a stone throne fit for King Triton 👑
🔹 Creating multiple blue flags for our storm scene 🌊
🔹 Constructing Ariel’s Grotto—filled with treasures and trinkets ✨
🔹 Building a large oyster prop for Ursula’s lair 🦪🌑

A list of smaller props and costume needs will be updated here:
👉 Props & Costumes List

If you wish to volunteer or have materials that could assist, please contact

Stacy Bruinsma at 📧 [email protected].

Seeking Help with Set Transport! 🚛

We also have some set pieces and props available to borrow in Regina, and we are looking for someone willing to transport them to Alberta before March. Most items would fit in a pickup truck, but if we can secure a trailer or U-Haul, we could also bring the larger 8-foot coral pieces.

Materials Needed for Saturday’s Work Bee:

🔹 Pool noodles, blue fabric, rope, sea looking things 🏊‍♂️
🔹 Spray foam, grey paint, paint supplies  🏗️
🔹 Tools (crafting, gluing, and woodworking) 🔨

If you can assist with the work bee, transportation, or supply donations, please reach out! Your support will help make this an unforgettable performance for our students.

Thank you for being part of this adventure “Under the Sea!” 🌊🐠

🚗 Winter Drop-Off Reminders: 🚗

If Grandparents or others are dropping off/picking up students, please share this information!!

  1. Bus Lane: The bus lane is never for parent traffic, regardless of whether you’re in a hurry or don’t see a bus. Please respect this rule at all times.
  2. Middle Lane (Kiss and Go): This lane is for quick drop-offs only. Please do not park and exit your vehicle here.
  3. Third Lane: This lane is for parents who wish to park and walk their children into school.
  4. One-Way Flow: All lanes operate as one-way only. Please follow the directional flow to maintain safety and order.
  5. One-Lane Flow: The lanes are only one lane, there is never any passing lanes. Two cars across increases the chance of collision with a pedestrian, as well as increases, with certainty, Mr. Simmons blood pressure.

Pick-Up Reminders:

  1. Proper Parking: Even when snow covers the lines, park as properly as possible to maximize space and avoid congestion.
  2. Crosswalk Safety: Do not park where the crosswalk extends. It’s vital for our students to use crosswalks safely and without obstruction.
  3. Full Lap Rule: If no spots are available, continue around the loop and return to see if a spot has opened. Please do not stop in the middle and block others.
  4. No Speeding: Corners can be tricky; please drive cautiously and at a safe speed.
  5. Staff Parking Lot: This lot is reserved for staff only. Parents should not park here.
  6. Patience is Key: You are in a warm car. Please demonstrate patience for the sake of everyone’s safety.
  7. One-Way Flow: All lanes are single-lane and one-way, just as they are during drop-off.
  8. Ditches: The ditch is not for vehicles to use as a shortcut to the parking lot. Vehicles MUST be on the road only!

Why These Rules Matter

As adults, we have the responsibility to create a safe, predictable environment for our children. Kids can be unpredictable, as is their nature, and by following these rules, we are doing our part to protect them. Your cooperation in modeling respect and patience goes a long way in ensuring everyone’s safety.

Thank you for your attention to these guidelines. By working together, we can make our parking lot safe and efficient for all families.

DRESS FOR THE WEATHER- A SHARED RESPONSIBILITY

As we move further into the cold season, I want to kindly remind everyone of the importance of dressing appropriately for the weather. While recess is only 12-15 minutes, the time spent outside is long enough for students to be at risk if they are not properly dressed.

While I believe in natural consequences as learning opportunities, it is also our responsibility as educators—and yours as caregivers—to ensure that children are safe and well-prepared. As we act in loco parentis during the school day, it is imperative that we all work together to avoid preventable harm.

Please ensure that your child comes to school equipped with:

  • A warm jacket
  • Mittens or gloves (more than the thin ones)
  • A hat
  • Proper footwear (insulated and waterproof)
  • Extra socks, if needed (Nobody wants to go back outside with wet socks!)
Our shared goal is to keep students safe and comfortable so they can fully enjoy their day and the outdoor time they need. Thank you for your attention to this matter and for helping us keep all our students warm and safe during the colder months.

TEACHING FOR TRANSFORMATION- LESSONS FROM OUR LEAD

As our school community grows, we continue to look for ways to connect with families and share our vision for Christian education. There are many routines, practices and procedures that we have a CCS and will be sharing here in the Chronicle in the coming weeks.

Prairie Center for Christian Education (PCCE) is an organization that supports Christian schools. Teachers participate in ongoing professional development and have access to resources as we plan lessons and teach students from a Christ-Centered worldview. One of the key methods of support PCCE offers is a framework called Teaching for Transformation that guides us as we teach.

“Christian schools recognize the need for a distinctively Christian design framework that invites, nurtures and empowers both teachers and students to play their part in God’s story through engaging learning experiences.” (https://www.teachingfortransformation.org/who-we-are/tft-story)

At Covenant, we begin with a shared understanding that knowing God is our first desire and we teach our students that God loves us in life-changing ways. We are transformed by the love of God and therefore we can walk in this world, and love others according to His great plan for us.
