PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

With just six school days left, it’s time for me to share my final principal’s message at Covenant.

To the many parents who have taken the time to stop in and say goodbye, I thank you. I know I’m not always great at goodbyes, and if I made it quick or brushed it off with a wave, it wasn’t because I didn’t care. I’ve just been holding onto the time we still have left together.

Covenant is the place where I grew up as a school leader. It has been such a blessing. I'm sure I’ve made mistakes along the way, but I’ve also poured my heart into this community. I’m proud of what we’ve built together. This school is filled with passionate staff, incredible students, and families who care deeply, and that’s something truly special.

As I prepare to step away from this role, my ask is simple: keep taking care of each other. Keep supporting our staff, trust them. Keep loving our students, and keep leaning into what makes Covenant so unique. Shine His light by your actions - make them actions of love. Be wary of your words, for they can cut deep. And may you continue to carry on our core purpose: Flourishing Learners, Delighting in God, Inspired to Serve.

Soon, I’ll just be a parent here. But I promise I’ll continue to advocate for this school with the same heart I’ve had as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal.

Thank you, everyone. Thank you for the memories, the support, the grace, and the trust.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

We are thrilled to announce that this year’s junior high musical will be…  Newsies Jr.

This high-energy show is filled with a united ensemble of characters (not limited to BOYS!), powerful dance numbers, kids talking like Bugs Bunny, and a strong message rooted in Christian values. This production will celebrate Community-Building and Justice-Seeking at its core, echoing our call to stand together and speak up for what is right.

In one of the most powerful moments of the show, the Newsies declare:
“The world will know that we’ve been here!”

This bold stand for justice connects with the words of the prophet Isaiah:
“Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed.” -Isaiah 1:17

Newsies Jr. invites all of us to step up, use our voices, and shine a light in dark places,  just as Christ calls us to do.

Please note:

  • The Broadway stage musical is available on Disney + (in addition to the original film). Please note, the Jr. version is a toned down, lighter, and shorter version with a greater focus on ensemble strength than conflict and romance.
  • All grade eight students are expected to be involved in the production. If not registered for “Drama 1,2,3 performance”; they must choose “stage crew” in term 3.

For questions or to volunteer with the spring program, please contact Mr. Jenkins at [email protected].

Parent Permission Required: Junior High Student Post-Exam Plans

As we approach exam week, we ask that parents please complete the dismissal form to indicate your child’s after-exam plan for each day.

After their exam, will your child be:

  • Walking or biking home
  • Getting picked up by a parent
  • Going home with a friend
  • Staying at school for Study Hall until regular dismissal
  • Taking the bus as usual

Students must stay until 11:00 am

This information helps us ensure safe and smooth supervision throughout the week.

Important Safety Reminder:
If your child is walking or biking home, they must use the west side field route and avoid the construction site completely. Students are expected to follow all posted signs and instructions from construction staff. RULAM Construction has noted students have been respectful so far—thank you! If safety concerns arise, walking home will no longer be an option for any student.

Important Notice for Parents Driving Behind the School Busses

Please be aware that when our school buses turn off Highway 2A onto Township Road 492, they are required to make a full stop at the railway tracks. This includes opening the bus door and checking for oncoming trains, which takes longer than a typical stop.

If you're driving behind a bus at this location, we kindly ask that you wait on Highway 2A until the bus has fully cleared the railway tracks. This helps ensure everyone's safety and prevents unnecessary congestion near the tracks.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!

COUNSELLOR'S CORNER

On Friday, June 13th we gathered to celebrate the accomplishments of our grade nine students, but more importantly we acknowledged the work that God is doing in their lives. CCS grad is always a time of joy and reflection for me. I am reminded about the faithfulness of God that I have seen at work here at Covenant since I first came to this community 25 years ago. I still remember the new family interview where we gathered with others who were excited about joining in and supporting the good work that was happening here. We heard about the commitment to work through our differences and stay focused on our mission. I remember thinking that I had found a place where we could grow with other people who had the same desire to keep God first. Attending a Christian school is not a guarantee that children will grow up and remain close to the Lord, but there are some things that we can do as we work together and model what it means to follow Jesus: we can offer an education immersed in a Biblical worldview, allow tough questions -  and admit to not always having answers, pray, love, accept, value, and nurture critical thinkers.

As we say goodbye to the grade nines, please take a moment and give God thanks for each of them, that they will walk with God all of their lives and will always remember that they are deeply loved.

THE COUGAR CANTEEN

Thank you to all the students who helped run the Cougar Canteen and to everyone who supported the program this year!

The Cougar Canteen isn’t just about snacks, it’s an empowering project that helps students develop essential life skills like responsibility, communication, and money management. The final Cougar Canteen of the year was held on June 12 for Division 2. We look forward to bringing it back next year!

HOT LUNCH

Today marked our last Hot Lunch of the school year! Thank you to all the families who participated and supported the program.

A special shout-out to Mrs. Toogood and our amazing Hot Lunch volunteers- your time and effort made this program possible and so appreciated by our students and staff!

Thank you again for a great year of Hot Lunch!

CELEBRATION

We hold weekly assemblies, which we call Celebration. We alternate between Wednesday and Thursday mornings each month so our kindergarten students are each able to join us every other month.

Celebration will be held on Thursdays in June.

ATHLETICS

Please familiarize yourself with our athletic handbook when you have a spare moment. It speaks to important issues such as parent conduct as well as athlete conduct. While we know that the school year is almost done, we mustn’t lose our high expectations for our athletes, parents, and coaches.
