PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Note from the Principal
Note from the Staff

October 9th, 2019

There is a long-standing tradition at Covenant that involves an annual redecoration of the Principal’s office. At the end of the first week of October, when the principal is away at the annual PCCE Leadership Cohort, the staff pranks... I mean reorganizes the office. In short, when the cat's away the mice will play. Over the past few years, this good-natured fun has resulted in completely filling the office with balloons, wrapping all the contents in newsprint, relocating the furniture to the foyer, and my favorite, creating a fully tropical landscape, complete with sandy beach. Not to brag, but there are some truly creative and devious minds on staff!
This shenanigan is always great for a good laugh and makes memories for all of us who have just completed some of the busiest work weeks of the school year.  It is great to see how all of Covenant’s principals actually look forward to the reveal when they get back as they know it is a reminder of how much they are truly appreciated.
Experiences like this can have a powerful impact on each year’s educational journey together. This year, Donavin’s office was “Yarned.” (see picture) A picture of each staff member was attached to the yarn web with a note of encouragement for Donavin, acknowledging who he is and the work he does. This was a great reminder to be intentionally connected with all the members of our community: our students, our parents, and with each other as we seek to fulfill the goals and vision of Covenant each and every day.
Our ‘Deepest Hope’ for Christian Education is so much more than just transmitting information about Sky Science or Canadian Geography. It is about building deep connections and purposeful community. Our hope is that we are constantly being formed as God’s Peculiar People, a people who yearn to love, learn, live, and laugh together. We, as a community of teachers and support staff, are genuinely grateful for our principal and leader, Donavin Simmons, and want to express our thankfulness for him.

We hope you will join us for Covenant Christian School’s Grade 9 Mini-Mall! Our Mini-Mall has been an annual school-wide community event.
